After an impressive show in his first series as The India Skipper, Shubman Gill is set to lead the north region in the upcoming Dalip Trophy 2025 season, marking the onset of the Indian domestic calendar.
Shubman Gill possibly had the best and most animated start for the career of any Test skipper, as he led India to take a draw in the series, where India implicated and then fought from behind to draw a remarkable conclusion for the series.
The series included Gill’s 754 runs in four centuries, including a large double ton. Gill’s Tally of Run has now ranked him second for Sir Donald Bradman, who had 810 runs, in a Test series in the most run list by a captain.

Shubman Gill to lead the north region in the Dalip Trophy
Shubman Gill started the test series as the successor of the great Rohit Sharma in England and also stepped into a new batting position of number 4 in the Indian lineup, which was left vacant by the retirement of legendary batsman Virat Kohli.
Shubman impressed his body language, his intensity on the field, his responsibility as a player and his aggression, who was a new uncontrolled side of Shubman Gill after taking over as an Indian captain.
In this season, the Dalip Trophy returns to its traditional zonal format, in which the areas choose their own related squads. Currently, there are champions ruling in the south region, winning the title in the 2023–24 season.
Shubman Gill has been entrusted with the opportunity to lead the north region in the upcoming Dalip Trophy, as the North Region team kicks up their campaign against the East Zone in Bengaluru on 28 August.
North Zone Squad: Shubman Gill (C), Shubam Khajuria, Ankit Kumar (VC), Ayush Badoni, Yash Dhul, Ankit Kalsi, Nishant Sindhu, Sahil Lotra, Mayank Dagar, Yudhvi Singh Chark, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana (WK).
Standbis: Shubam Arora (WK), Jaskenavir Singh Paul, Ravi Chauhan, Abid Mushtaq, Nishank Birla, Umar Nazir, Divesh Sharma.
If Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana are selected for the Asia Cup 2025, they will be replaced by Shubam Rohila (SSCB), Anuj Thararal and Gurroor Brar in the squad.
Shubman Gill is likely to get the role of leadership in the Asia Cup
The Asia Cup has already been a basket of questions for the Government of India, BCCI and now the Indian cricket team.
Some reports claimed that Suryakumar Yadav will continue as India’s T20I captain and Shubman Gill will be named his deputy for the Asia Cup 2025. Therefore, Shubman is likely to have a leadership role if he is back from India for the shortest format after the longest absence of about a year from the format.
Gill made a monumental contribution to the success of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 with Sai Sudhrasan and Jose Butler. Titans were a very successful batting unit, and the skipper regulated his players to win from several tender junctions of the game.
Confrontation with Asia Cup 2025 Dalip Trophy
The Asia Cup has been reported to return to India for players like Shubman Gill and Yashsvi Jiswal in T20Is. However, Jaiswal has been selected by the West Zone Team, and Gill is ready to facilitate the north region in the Dalip Trophy.
However, this is to be noted: Gill’s presence in the Dalip Trophy will make him out for selection in the Asia Cup, as the Dalip Trophy quarterfinal for the north region begins on August 28, while the semi -finals, if they qualify, will be on September 4 and ends 2 days before the start of the Asia Cup.
In addition, if the north region makes it in the finals, they will need their captain the most; However, the Dalip Trophy final begins on September 11, a day after India’s Asia Cup campaign against UAE on 10th.
