Shubman Gill opens up on top-order headache
Addressing the growing debate over India’s top-order combination, Gill admitted that picking the playing XI will not be easy but welcomed the talent available in abundance.
“It’s a good headache for all the players who are performing,” Gill said after the series win.
He said that the team will play a major role in determining the final combination for the upcoming England tour.
“We will look at the ODI squad for England and put forward our best XI. We will see how everyone’s fitness is. If everyone is fit, then the team will be announced and based on that we will try to make the best XI.” Gill explained.
The captain’s comments come at a time when India themselves have several opening options including Gill, Rohit, Jaiswal Ishan Kishan. assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate It has also been indicated Sai Sudarshan is being tipped as the future ODI opener, adding another name to the increasingly competitive race.

Yashasvi Jaiswal responded in style after Lucknow shock
After being out cheaply in the second ODI in Lucknow, Jaiswal gave a strong statement in Chennai. The left-handed batsman remained unbeaten throughout the chase and scored a brilliant century, displaying both composure and aggressive nature. Experienced opener Rohit gave him full support by scoring unbeaten 79 runs in 69 balls, due to which India easily chased 219 runs without any major problems.
Although Jaiswal has not been a regular feature in India’s ODI setup, his latest innings has further strengthened his claim for a permanent role. Ironically, he had also scored an unbeaten century against the South African bowling attack last year before being dropped from the playing eleven due to a change in team composition.
Reflecting on his journey, Jaiswal credited the support staff for keeping him motivated despite the uncertainty.
“I just focus on my process, which is under my control, and try to work as hard as I can. There is full support from the support staff.” Jaiswal said.
“They have been amazing to me and the communication is unreal. I know what’s going on and I’m really enjoying it.” he added.
As India prepare for the ODI series in England, the selection battle is expected to intensify. However, Gill seems unfazed by this challenge. Instead, he sees the abundance of batting options as a sign that Indian cricket is in a healthy state, with many players putting pressure on each other to raise the team’s standards and perform ahead of the next World Cup cycle.
