Former National Cricket Team batsman Mohammad Kaif has resolved the fight between Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jiswal for a place in the India team for the Asia Cup 2025.
Along with taking a back-up opener for the Asia Cup 2025, Mohammad Kaif nominated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star as a back-up wicketkeeper-batsman.

In a video shared on his official YouTube channel, Mohammad Kaif said that Shubman Gill should be preferred to Yashsvi Jiswal for back-up opener spots due to his recent form. He also nominated Jitesh Sharma as the backup wicketkeeper-batsman of Sanju Samson in the Asia Cup squad.
“Regarding Gill and Jaiswal, only one can make it, and I believe Shubman Gill scored 750 runs, looking at the way of performing as captain on England, he is entitled to a place, he deserves a place. Even in IPL, he scored a lot of runs.
“Next, if I talk about the backup opener, there is a difficult battle between Gill and Jaiswal, but only one can be chosen. You also need a backup wicketkeeper, and I am looking at Jitesh Sharma’s name. He is in amazing form and even this time leading RCB in the finals. Sharma.”
Siraj is entitled to be in Squad – Mohammad Kaif
Mohammad Kaif urged the BCCI Selection Committee to choose Mohammad Siraj for the Asia Cup 2025 after his Sher-Dil performance in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, where he ended as a major wicket taker. He said:
“I will name another player, Mohammad Siraj. Although his name was not included in the ODI team for the Champions Trophy, Harshit Rana replaced him, the selectors will have to decide here whether Harshit Rana or Siraj is to go with.”
“However, I believe that the way Mohammad Siraj and Shubman Gill performed on a tour of England and brought glory to India, Siraj is entitled to the squad for his bowling performance. Therefore, Mohammad Sirraj and Shubman Gill are two players who I would like to reward with a place in the squad,” he said.
