India National Cricket Team Test captain Shubman Gill has finally opened up to get help from cricket God, Sachin Tendulkar and modern-day batting great, Steve Smith to save his sinking Test career.
Shubman Gill revealed that he approached Sachin Tendulkar and Steve Smith, and both of them gave them similar advice, helping them succeed in England’s tour.
India’s captain Shubman Gill shines on England Tour
Punjab cricketer Shubman Gill was fully rushed to a new level in Indian cricket when Ajit Agkar -led selection committee decided to nominate him as a new test captain.
He converted Rohit Sharma into a hull after retiring from the longest format of the game before the tour of England. The decision was found with criticism, in which many supports were questioned as better candidates for Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant role and Gill’s performance in Red-Ball Cricket.
However, Gill sure to close his critics by giving an all-time performance in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. The right -handed batsman’s foreign record was poor, but he improved his figures on the tour of England.
Gill looked bright with the bat with the first Test match and continued his form in the entire series. He finished the series as a leading run-goldter, beating 754 runs when no other batsman touched the 600-run mark.
Shubman Gill scored 75.40 runs on an average and also broke four centuries. His captaincy was also tremendous as India managed to attract the five-match Test series 2–2.
There was pressure not to do well outside India – Shubman Gill
Speaking in front of his first domestic series as a Test captain, Gill gave him success in England. The Indian captain revealed that he spoke to Sachin Tendulkar and Steve Smith, who advised him to protect the straight and score square, which greatly benefited him.
He said, “There was pressure not to do well outside India. But in terms of my practice, what positions I was feeling very confident,” he said on Gehotstar.
He said, “I talked to Sachin sir and also took Steve Smith’s phone number from Matthew Wade.
Preparation has been good – Shubman Gill
Speaking in the toss at the First India vs. West Indies Test, Gill said that he has prepared well and is keen to win all the matches in the home Test season. He said:
“Yes, of course. I think we have 4 Test matches at home in this summer, and we want to win all of them. Preparation has been good. A few days of good practice. Boys are doing well. Everyone is doing well, and all this is about switching to the red-ball mentality. It looks like a good surface.”
