Shubman Gill performed brilliantly with the bat to take his team Gujarat Titans to the final of IPL 2026; However, he did not shy away from acknowledging the excellence of Rajasthan Royals opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who once again gave a tough challenge to the GT bowlers during his longest stay at the crease.
Rajasthan Royals were successful throughout the season due to their batting skills, and a major force behind their batting dominance was young Vaibhav Suryavanshi. However, they were eliminated from the qualifiers after a loss to the Titans.

Gujarat Titans, led by Indian captain Shubman Gill, reached their third IPL final in 2026 and the captain looked absolutely overwhelmed. However, despite being on the winning side, Gill could not deny Suryavanshi’s excellence in the game and throughout the competition.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s calm side came to the fore in the match against Gujarat Titans
Although Vaibhav Suryavanshi has mostly earned a reputation as a big-hitting batsman, he presented a completely different version of himself against Gujarat Titans in the Qualifier 2 encounter at the New PCA Stadium.
After Royals got two early setbacks, Suryavanshi restrained himself from playing high-risk shots and handled every ball to the best of his ability. He took some time to score a half-century while partnering with Ravindra Jadeja.

However, he again presented his ferocious side as he hit the ball to all parts of the ground and pushed his pace into the 90s before being dismissed by Kagiso Rabada. This innings was more character than entertainment for an absolutely talented young man.
He is one of the best batsmen in the world right now: Shubman Gill couldn’t hold back from praising the RR batsman
Indian captain Shubman Gill was left with no option but to acknowledge the excellence of the young Indian batsman. With his first full season in the IPL, Suryavanshi has made a statement to the world that India is now brimming with the raw powers of the game.
With the changing standards of the game, a batsman with Suryavanshi’s abilities is still rare, and Shubman Gill agrees that he has never seen a batsman like him. He was completely amazed by his biomechanics and his fearless approach against all opposition.
After GT’s win over Royals, Shubman Gill said, “The way he (Vaibhav Suryavanshi) bats, I haven’t seen anyone bat like that, and in this format he’s probably one of the best batsmen in the world right now… Not just the hitting but his biomechanics and his hand speed, no matter which opponent he plays against… In the coming years, whichever opponent he plays against, he’s going to have a tough time.”

Suryavanshi has already showcased his abilities to the wider world, and this is likely to increase once he steps up to the highest format of cricket, men’s senior cricket. Suryavanshi became eligible for selection after turning 15 during this IPL season.
His form in the IPL has been excellent, as he finished the season as the highest-scoring batsman. With one match left, not many have a chance to surpass his tally of 776 runs this season, that too with a strike rate of 237.
