Indian captain Shubman Gill was ruled out due to neck cramps on the second day of the first Test between India and South Africa. He was later admitted to hospital and ruled out of the Kolkata Test.
India lost the match against South Africa, their fourth home Test defeat since Gautam Gambhir became the head coach. The defeat is their third defeat in the current WTC cycle and has pushed them to fourth place in the WTC points table.

The Indian captain played only three balls on the second day and left the field due to neck cramps. The Indian captain, who did not take the field in the two Indian innings, is doubtful for the second game.
Meanwhile, head coach Gautam Gambhir gave an update on Gill after the end of the first Test, saying that he is currently being assessed and they will soon take a decision on his participation in the next match.
When Gautam Gambhir was asked whether Shubman Gill would travel with the team, he said, “He is still being evaluated, so let’s see. The physio will take a decision this evening. And we will decide tomorrow.”
