The toss on India’s fifth and final test against England continued on the bad luck against England at Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Oval in London on Thursday, 31 July. In Blue, men lost their 15th consecutive toss in men’s international cricket, as Shubman Gill lost the toss for the fifth test.
The India will look at a win in the final test at the Oval to level the series. The young Indian side has shown flexibility throughout the series, but missed opportunities in critical stages have left him 2–1 against England. A win in the fifth Test will be a fitting finish for a tough fight.

During the third T20I against England, Suryakumar Yadav was the last Indian captain. After that match, no Indian captain has won the toss in the formats. India lost all five toss in the white-ball series against England in January-February, and all five during the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Speaking in the toss before the final test, Shubman Gill said that he had no objection to losing the toss. Gill admitted that he was uncertain about what he had decided, he had won the toss, which was looking at the concrete conditions. However, he hoped that India could put a strong first for the first time.
Gill said, “As long as we win the game, don’t lose the toss. Yesterday it was a little confused about what to do, but the wicket was good, we would look good to post good runs in the first innings. There should be a good pitch for the bowlers,” Gill said as a quoted by Cricbuz.
He said, “We have three changes. Jurall, Karun and Prasad for Pant, Shardul and Bumrah. We seek every game playing in every game, we have come close and it is about 5-10% extra push, the boys must be giving it all,” he said.
India makes four changes to play Xi for Oval Test
The visiting team led by Shubman Gill has made four changes to play, in which wicketkeeper-butter Rishabh Pant has disappeared due to injury. Jasprit Bumrah has been rested as part of his charge management.
After remembering the previous match, Karun Nair and Akash returned to the lamp lineup. Nair was left for the fourth Test, while Akash was forbidden to hurt. Prasad Krishna also returned to the bowling attack. Dhruv Jurael will donate gloves in the absence of Rishabh Pant.
Meanwhile, the home team has also made four changes. Ben Stokes is missing due to a right shoulder injury. Jamie Overton, Gas Atkinson and Josh Tongue have replaced Bridan Cars, Liam Dawson and Joffra Archer.
