Team India captain Shubman Gill and West Indies wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach clashed badly during the second and final Test between the two teams. It appears that both the players suffered injuries and are undergoing treatment after the incident which took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
On the first day (Friday, 10 October), Gill came to the crease after the dismissal of Sai Sudarshan in India’s first innings. Sudarshan scored 87 runs in 165 balls with the help of 12 fours before being dismissed by Jomel Warrican. The left-handed batsman responded to the critics amid questions being raised about his place in the playing eleven.
See: Shubman Gill Tevin injured after horrific collision with Imlach
This incident happened on the fifth ball of the 85th over of India’s first innings. Shubman Gill and wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach collided at the striker’s end. Yashasvi Jaiswal took a quick single off Anderson Phillip.
Jaden Seales attempted a throw towards the stumps but it went wide, prompting Imlach to charge forward, while Shubman Gill tried to pounce with his head down.
Both the players collided with each other in an awkward manner, which made them feel uncomfortable and the game had to be stopped for some time. Physicians from both teams rushed to the field to provide medical care, with concerns briefly raised over Gill’s possible injury.
Gill’s batting partner Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to keep things light after the collision. Jaiswal acted like a physio and was seen conducting concussion tests in an entertaining manner. Fortunately, both players were declared fit to continue.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudarshan put India in a strong position
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s brilliant century and Sai Sudarshan’s half-century put India in a strong position on the first day of the second Test against West Indies. The pair put on a solid partnership of 193 runs for the second wicket, ensuring the hosts’ dominance in Delhi.
At stumps, India’s score was 318/2 after 90 overs, with Jaiswal (173) and Shubman Gill (20) at the crease. Spinner Jomel Warrican was the only bowler to make a notable impact for the visitors, taking two Indian wickets, including that of KL Rahul, who was out for 38 in the first session.
The Shubman Gill-led side had already won the first Test in Ahmedabad by an innings and 140 runs and are now eyeing a clean sweep. A win in Delhi will not only secure the series 2-0 but also boost their position in the ongoing World Test Championship (2025-27) points table.
I was not thinking about scoring runs – Sai Sudarshan
Speaking after the opening day, Sai Sudarshan said he was focusing on making a solid stand rather than scoring individual runs. Sudarshan expressed his desire to convert the start into even bigger scores in the future.
“It was a good contribution, a good partnership between me and Jaiswal. Hopefully, we will have a long partnership and make a big score.” Sudarshan said,
“Definitely, I wasn’t thinking about scoring runs, so I was a bit more free, expressed myself, took time rather than rushing into things. I didn’t try to make things up. I’m grateful for what I’ve done, but there’s always something to do, happy with the runs, but wanting to make more.”
