Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently a regular in India’s Test XI, as he was already ruled out of the T20I setup, and he only gets ODI chances when Shubham Gill is not available. However, Aakash Chopra felt that Yashasvi Jaiswal has a way to go to become a regular player for Team India across all formats.
Aakash Chopra has set a big target for Yashasvi Jaiswal to make a place in all formats of IPL.
Chopra believes that if the young opening batsman really wants to cement his place in the three formats of the game, especially white-ball cricket, he will have to deliver a big IPL season in 2026. India are currently preparing for a three-match ODI series against New Zealand followed by five T20Is.
Jaiswal is part of the ODI team, but despite his explosive ability at the top, he is completely out of the T20I team. And the former Indian batsman has tipped Jaiswal to score more than 700 runs in IPL 2026 to become a regular in India’s white-ball teams.

He believes that performances like this will force the Indian selectors to take notice and consider Jaiswal as a serious contender in both ODI and T20I cricket.
Yashasvi will sit out of New Zealand ODI: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “Yashshvi, I have a request for you. I want you to have a 700-run IPL season. Every year, I think it will be like this for you. You have a 400 to 450-run season, but it is not good enough. Not for you, not for your standard. I want a 700-run season so that you break the door and go in. That’s what I expect from them. That’s it.” What I want from him is that Yashasvi should become a three-format player soon.
Cricket pundits felt bad for the left-handed batsman not being able to play in all three formats, which he attributed to the depth and tough competition in the Indian setup.
Chopra further said, “It is amazing. It tells you how much depth India has because you have Yashasvi unable to play in all three formats. He is going after scoring an ODI century and now will sit out when the match comes. So it is a reality.”

Changes after T20 World Cup? Chopra makes bold prediction for Yashasvi Jaiswal
The commentator predicted that Jaiswal will be a regular part of India’s white-ball teams after the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026 starting on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.
Chopra said, “In T20, he is not even close. He is at least in the ODI team but not in the T20 team. However, after the World Cup, that is going to change. I thought it would change before that, but now it doesn’t seem so. It will change after that, and then he should become a three-format player.”
Despite limited opportunities, Jaiswal’s international statistics remain impressive. He has already played 28 Tests and four ODIs for India, but he has scored 171 runs in those 50-over games. The young opening batsman has also scored 723 runs in 22 innings in T20Is at an impressive strike rate above 164. He has not played any T20I match for the Men in Blue since July 2024.
