The big question before the Duleep Trophy 2025 opener is whether Shubman Gill will run as the captain of the North Zone. The tournament is still no clarity on the availability of Shubman Gill, with the closure between the northeastern region on August 28 and the eastern region in Bangalore.

The North Zone has already started complete preparations, assuming that their skipper would join Gill. But there is no official word from India’s Test Captain or BCCI. If Gill fails to get clearance from the medical team, Ankit Kumar, the vice-captain of North Zone, will take charge.

Will the Shubman Gill Duleep Trophy lead the north region in the 2025 opener?

After leading India through a long and demanding Test tour in England, the right -handed batsman Dalip Trophy was ready for Captain North Zone in 2025. He wanted to send a strong message about the importance of playing domestic cricket while playing in the tournament.

But a few days ago with the tournament opener, Gill fell ill with viral fever and was asked to undergo a medical test. The reports are now with BCCI doctors, and the availability of the Indian test captain depends entirely on their withdrawal.

While many reports claimed Gill’s unavailability, the North Zone Camp still has not received any official term, leaving him in suspense.

We have not heard anything from Shubman Gill or BCCI: North Zone

A member of the North Zone Coaching Staff was quoted by Revsports saying, “If Shubman is not available, he will inform the selectors and/or BCCI. We have not heard anything from them, or Shubman, as yet, and accordingly, we are expecting him to join the squad today, apart from that, I can say nothing.

Some contracted players will visit BCCI’s Center of Excellence later this month, especially for the pre-season fitness test, especially those who are ready to play in the upcoming Dilip Trophy 2025.

In particular, the 25-year-old, which is also the vice-captain of India for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, was expected to play only the first match of the North Zone before flying to national duty.

Shubman Gill broke the world record for most ODI runs in 55 innings

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has broken a record that puts him ahead of some of the greatest ODI batsmen that the game has ever seen. He has surpassed legends such as Hashim Amla and Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq and dug the name in the record book with the most ODI runs in his first 55 innings.

The 25 -year -old Indian opener has scored 2775 runs in his first 55 ODIs in his name, and he is more than any other cricketer in history, where Virat Kohli also does not make the top five. Gill was followed by Amla (2713), Imam (2539), Zaheer Abbas (2432), and Fakhar Zaman (2410).

Gill is already captain of India’s Test team, vice-captain in T20Is and Rohit Sharma’s deputy in Odis. With Rohit being near the end of his career, Gill is ready to become India’s next all-format captain, perhaps after India’s White-Ball tour of India’s White-Ball Tour later this year.
