This is a good, active batting with the captain of India – Ricky Ponting
Speaking on Sky Sports, veteran Australian captain Ricky Ponting praised Shubman Gill for batting with a root-like approach in the first innings of the Oval Test match.
Ricky Ponting highlighted how the Indian captain took “some modes of dismissal from the equation” and showed active batting. He explained in detail:
“Joe Root talked about taking some ways of dismissal out of the equation last week. It is that Gill is trying to do here, by batting with his crease so far.
“He recognized that Vox is leaving with LBW after that, so if he moves forward, anything that kills him on the pad can be outside the line.
“This also shuts down its length as the bowler now needs to pull it back and the balls can now go to the stumps. It’s a good, active batting with the captain of India.”
