Shubman Gill closes in on Daryl Mitchell’s No. 1 ODI ranking, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma at No. 3 and 4

India national cricket team captain Shubman Gill has moved closer to the No. 1 spot in the ICC men’s ODI batting rankings after a match-winning performance in the first ODI against England at Edgbaston.

In the latest rankings, Shubman Gill is placed second with 803 rating points, just 11 behind New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who continues to top the list with 814 points. India’s dominance in the rankings is further highlighted by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who are placed third and fourth respectively, giving India three batsmen in the top four.

Gill’s unbeaten 80 in India’s successful chase against England gave him a valuable boost in the ICC rankings. The India captain gained 12 rating points and moved up to 803, leaving the gap to current No. 1 batsman Daryl Mitchell by just 11 points.

Daryl Mitchell, who recently scored 93 runs in the opening two ODIs against West Indies, remains at the top with 814 rating points. With two matches still left in the England series, Gill has a real chance to overtake the New Zealand batsman and regain the No. 1 ODI batting ranking.

Despite missing runs in the series opener, Virat Kohli retained the No. 3 position with 757 rating points, while Rohit Sharma remained at the fourth position with 744 points. Afghanistan opening batsman Ibrahim Zadran completes the top five with 712 rating points.

KL Rahul is India’s fourth representative in the top 15, placed joint 12th with 640 rating points, while Shreyas Iyer is placed 15th with 636 points.

Akshar Patel has made a big gain in ICC ODI all-rounder rankings.

Axar Patel has broken into the top 10 of the latest ICC men’s ODI all-rounder rankings after a match-winning performance in the first ODI against England. The left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder moved up three places to ninth position with 213 rating points, making him India’s highest-ranked player in this category. The only other Indian in the top 20 is Ravindra Jadeja, who is ranked 17th with 174 rating points.

Akshar earned the Player of the Match award after contributing with both bat and ball at Edgbaston. He took four wickets in England’s innings before remaining unbeaten on 57 runs and along with Washington Sundar helped India win the run chase.

His all-round performance also led to improvements in his individual batting and bowling rankings. In the ODI batting rankings, Akshar jumped 18 places to 73rd and among ODI bowlers he moved up two places to 42nd. Sundar also made significant gains after his unbeaten half-century, climbing 24 places to 177th in the batting rankings and 16 places to 55th in the ODI all-rounder rankings.

Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai continues to top the ODI all-rounder rankings with 316 rating points, followed by Bangladesh’s Mehdi Hasan Miraj and Afghanistan’s experienced Mohammad Nabi.

Harry Brook, Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer have made big gains in the ICC T20I rankings.

Ishan Kishan remains at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings with 892 rating points, maintaining a healthy lead at the top after his stellar performances in the last year. Fellow India opener Abhishek Sharma remains in second place with 858 points, giving India the top two spots in the rankings. Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan is in third place with 848 points, while England’s Phil Salt is in fourth place. Sri Lankan opening batsman Pathum Nissanka joined the top five.

Meanwhile, Harry Brook moved up 12 places to seventh after finishing the T20I series against India as the leading run-scorer, and played several impressive innings, including an unbeaten innings in the final match. Jos Buttler also moved up to sixth position after finishing the series with a memorable century. Among the bowlers, the biggest jump was made by Jofra Archer, who moved up eight places to joint 18th after continuously troubling India’s batsmen and ending the series with seven wickets.
