Shubman Gill breaks major WTC record for India with brilliant century against Afghanistan

Indian national cricket team captain Shubman Gill has scored a brilliant century on the first day of the ongoing one-off Test against the Afghanistan national cricket team in New Chandigarh. Gill played a composed but stylish innings to achieve another major feat in his young career.

Gill scored his 11th Test century in his first match as India’s Test captain on his home ground. This was his sixth century as India’s Test captain. With this innings, the right-hander cemented his status as India’s next superstar in the traditional format of the game.

He now holds the record for the most centuries by an Indian in the history of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), with 11 centuries to his name in the competition. Among active players, KL Rahul is second in the WTC with 7 centuries, while retired Rohit Sharma is second with 9 centuries.
