Jasprit Bumrah’s bad phase is over for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026 season
More than the batting, it was the MI bowlers who paved the way for the team smoothly to the finish line. Bumrah got success in the form of GT opener Sai Sudarshan on the very first ball of the second over. Titans’ other two in-form batsmen, Jos Buttler and Shubman Gill, also scored quickly inside the powerplay.
Impressive player Ahaswini Kumar completed her 4 over spell by taking 4 wickets at an economy rate of just 6.00. Kumar took the wickets of Gill, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan and Rashid Khan.
Tilak Verma was excellent tonight
Batting first, Mumbai Indians managed to post a competitive score of 199 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs thanks to a century from middle-order batsman Tilak Verma. The 23-year-old batsman scored his first century when the team needed him the most.
Naman Dhir’s inning of 45 runs was also important for the team. At one time in the first innings, MI’s score was 44 runs for 3 wickets. From there he claimed 199 runs.
Verma’s contribution of unbeaten 101 runs was in 45 balls. He needed eight fours and seven sixes to complete his impressive innings. In reply, GT scored only 100 runs for all 10 of its batsmen, losing wickets at short intervals. Mumbai Indians won the match in 15.5 overs. MI won this match by 99 runs.
Shubman Gill explains why he faced a crushing defeat against Mumbai Indians
“To be honest, I think we gave away too many runs in the middle overs. On a wicket like this, I think 160-170 was par score. But I think there are a lot of lessons for us from this game. I mean, a small hiccup, but now we have a few games, so hopefully we will get back to winning ways again,” Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill said after the match.
“I think the wicket was a bit slow. I don’t think we bowled in the right areas. The length of the ball was not coming that well; some balls were coming, some were not coming and some balls were slow.”
“I think we could have hit that length a little more consistently in the middle overs, which we didn’t. (Had the pitch changed when they were batting?) I think it was pretty similar. If it had, it might have been a little better because I think there was a little more dew when we were batting,” Shubhman Gill said.
