Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra has announced the Fab-4 of modern cricket and has selected current Indian captain Shubman Gill in his list and has shown great confidence in his talent across all three formats.
The trend of Fab-4 started in the last decade of the game, when Indian batsman Virat Kohli, Englishman Joe Root, Australian Steve Smith and New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson were at the peak of their careers. They were breaking all records and earning wide fame for their country.
While Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson mastered all three formats of the game, Joe Root and Steve Smith were not equally effective in the shortest format of the game.

With the passage of time, even the veterans had to say goodbye to the game. Players like Virat Kohli and Steve Smith have already retired from one format or the other of the game. Kohli announced his retirement from both T20 and Test, while Smith has said goodbye to the ODI format.
Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra has announced his opinion about the next Fab-4 through a video posted on his X handle. The players selected will not be allowed to differ from the opinion of the former Indian batsman.
He named Indian captain Shubman Gill, who has shown his excellence in all three formats of the game. They have also ensured Gill’s dominance across formats throughout this period.
After this, the second name of another young man from India, Yashasvi Jaiswal, came. Unlike Shubman Gill, Jaiswal is currently only part of the Indian Test team; However, he has proved his worth in the shortest format of the game at the international level.
Aakash Chopra said, “He may be playing only one format right now, but I believe he will be an all-format cricketer in the future and a boss in every format.”

England’s fellow player has been included in place of Joe Root in the new Fab-4.
Along with two Indian cricketers, he named Harry Brook as the Fab-4 of England’s next generation. The batsman is already a part of England’s all-format team and has also been made the captain of the white-ball team.
Brook, who is widely known for his aggressive batting intent, has scored many runs across all formats and is becoming an important name in the English middle order.
Apart from Brook, Chopra named CSK batsman and New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra as the fourth name in the list. He will replace countryman Kane Williamson; However, no such next generation cricketer has been mentioned in the Australian team.
Kane Williamson and Joe Root have not retired from any format of international cricket.
While Virat Kohli and Steve Smith have put their retirement plans into motion, players like Joe Root and Kane Williamson still continue to play across all formats. Root has not been a part of the T20I XI for a long time, yet he never retired from the format. He is currently dominating Test cricket and is eyeing the Master Blaster for scoring the most Test runs.
Kane Williamson, on the other hand, has refused a central contract with his board, but he is likely to play for New Zealand in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
