Former India captain Sourav Ganguly expressed disappointment over the absence of middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer at the Asia Cup 2025 squad. Ganguly said that Iyer was entitled to a place in the squad ahead of Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma, seeing the performance of his frequent white balls and the credibility of leadership.

Speaking to Anandbazar Patrika, Ganguly said, “I am surprised to see Iyer in the Asia Cup squad. Whenever I do not see him in the white ball squad, I am taken aback. He has played such a great innings in the IPL and has been a great captain,” Ganguli said while talking to Anandbazar Patrika.
“You cannot leave Iyer from the White-Ball teams. He is entitled to a place in front of Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma. We have Sanju Samson as a wicketkeeper, so why will we still not bring Iyer?” He said.
