More than 3.84 lakh people are struggling to deal with destruction, fields and houses have been washed. In this hour of crisis, Iyer has urged everyone to donate generously for relief efforts. Punjab Kings have already joined hands with the global Sikh charity to raise Rs 2 crore, which aims to provide immediate assistance to the stranded families.
Even the IPL franchise has already contributed Rs 33.8 lakhs, helping to fund inflatable rescue boats that are helping people to evacuate, provide medical support and supply clean water. These boats will also serve as disaster-reaction tools in future emergency situations.
Due to heavy rains and swelling rivers including Sutlej, Beas and Ravi, floods have left about 61,000 hectares of farm under water in Punjab.
