Team India vice-captain Shreyas Iyer grabbed attention on social media by sharing a celebratory post after India’s six-wicket win over England in the first ODI of the three-match series at Edgbaston. The middle-order batsman posted a series of pictures from the match along with a brief caption, which sparked reactions from cricket fans.
India, after suffering a disappointing 4-0 defeat in the previous T20I series against England, registered a six-wicket win on Tuesday, July 14, to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Great win against England ends with Shreyas Iyer’s run-out
After the fall of early wickets, Shreyas Iyer along with Shubman Gill helped stabilize India’s innings. However, this promising partnership ended due to a mix-up while running between the wickets and India’s progress slowed during the chase.
After Gill retired hurt due to severe leg cramps, Washington Sundar pushed the ball towards mid-on and called for a quick single. Iyer replied but hesitated after seeing Harry Brook collecting the ball. Instead of running straight to the crease, he changed his running line and was run out.
Shreyas Iyer’s innings ended on 35 runs from 53 balls, without even attempting a dive. Interestingly, his previous ODI run out also came against England during the second match of the home ODI series in Cuttack in 2025.

Yes team effort but of course you are not involved in it. If you had been the captain, the result would have been different.

Axar Patel, Washington Sundar star as India take 1-0 lead in series
England won the toss and decided to bat first but the team was all out for 258 runs in 47.5 overs. Axar Patel bowled brilliantly, taking 4 wickets for 41 runs, while Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar took two wickets each and kept the host team under pressure throughout the innings.
India’s chase of the target got off to an initial shaky start as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were dismissed cheaply. captain Shubman Gill scored 80 runs before retiring hurt due to leg cramps. India slipped to 160/4, but Washington Sundar (52)* and Axar Patel (57)* stitched an unbeaten century partnership to help the visitors win in 45.2 overs.
The win ended India’s disappointing performance after a 4-0 defeat in the T20 series and gave them a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Akshar was named player of the match for his all-round performance. India will now look to clinch the series in the second ODI at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on July 16.
