Shrestha Iyer, sister of Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer, grabbed massive internet attention after the IPL 2026 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). After the match was canceled due to rain, he posted a humorous video on Instagram taking a light-hearted dig at Kolkata Knight Riders.
Knight Riders faced a poor start after Ajinkya Rahane chose to bat first at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday, April 6. The visiting fast bowlers took advantage of the cloudy conditions. However, persistent rain forced the umpires to abandon the match without even completing four overs in the first innings.
Saade Punjabiyan Da Dil Wadda Hunda Hai – Shreyas Iyer’s Sister
After the match was cancelled, Shrestha Iyer shared a witty Punjabi comment targeting Kolkata Knight Riders fans. Due to the cancellation of the match, both the teams shared one point each. Shrestha humorously suggested that Punjab Kings donate that one point to the struggling team.
“Sade Punjabiyaan da dil wadda hunda hai, lo de ditta ek point. (We Punjabis have a big heart… here, take a point!)”
Cricket fans appreciated the culturally rich and good-natured banter, which turned a disappointing, rain-interrupted evening into a memorable online moment and a display of light-hearted sportsmanship between the two fans.
Xavier Bartlett dominates Kolkata Knight Riders’ top-order
Before play was interrupted due to rain, Punjab Kings fast bowler Xavier Bartlett delivered a strong opening spell. The overseas fast bowler made use of the swing-friendly conditions to dismiss Finn Allen for six and then Cameron Green for four, putting early pressure on Kolkata Knight Riders.
Arshdeep Singh also bowled a disciplined opening over against Ajinkya Rahane. Punjab Kings’ consistent bowling made things difficult for the batsmen, taking full advantage of the cloudy conditions at the Eden Gardens.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ score was 25 runs for two wickets in 3.4 overs, when the rain came. Ajinkya Rahane remained unbeaten along with Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Despite the efforts of the ground staff, further play could not take place before the cutoff time due to excess water on the ground.
The rain stopped at around 10:30 pm, but the damage was done. Notably, the match could not be restarted and both the KKR and PBKS captains shook hands at 10:58 pm.
Punjab Kings top IPL 2026 standings
The shared points helped Punjab Kings top the IPL 2026 points table. Shreyas Iyer and his team have five points in three matches. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders opened their account but remain at eighth position with one point.
Kolkata Knight Riders missed their key spinners Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy due to illness and injury. This left Ajinkya Rahane with limited bowling options before the match, making the match being canceled due to rain a slightly favorable result for the home team.
The Ajinkya Rahane-led side will now face Lucknow Supergiants in search of their first win in the tournament. Meanwhile, the Shreyas Iyer-led side will travel to Mullanpur to face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 11. The Kings will aim to continue their unbeaten streak.
