A big update has come on the return of India’s national cricket team’s star middle-order batsman and ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer to competitive cricket.
According to a recent report in Times of India, the way has been cleared for Shreyas Iyer’s return to cricket and he will be seen in action in India’s next home match.
How and when did Shreyas Iyer get injured?
The 31-year-old Punjab Kings captain and Mumbai star, Iyer recently got a massive promotion in Indian cricket as he was promoted to the role of vice-captain in ODIs.
This promotion was due to his heroics with the bat over a long period of time and his success as a captain in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with three different teams – Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS).
He made his debut as India’s permanent ODI vice-captain against Australia and in the same series, he became part of a very unfortunate moment.
Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious injury during the third ODI match between India and Australia in Sydney. He was injured on impact after taking the catch while running backwards from point to dismiss Alex Carey.
After completing the stunning catch, Iyer looked in pain and immediately clutched his rib and was treated by the physio. He was soon taken to the hospital for further investigation and later admitted to the ICU.
At the hospital, the splenic lesion, accompanied by internal bleeding, was treated by Dr. Koroush Haghaghi and his team in Sydney, with the help of Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India.
Shreyas Iyer will return to action against New Zealand
Iyer was discharged from the Sydney hospital on November 1 and after spending some more time in Australia, the right-handed batsman began his rehabilitation program in India.
The Mumbai batsman has been seen working hard with the aim of making a comeback, and was recently seen taking batting practice in the nets.
According to a recent report in Times of India, if there is no late warning, Iyer is all set to return for the ODI series against New Zealand.
The three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand will be played on January 11, 14 and 18 in Vadodara, Rajkot and Indore.
