Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match number 29, was a high-scoring game pitting Punjab Kings (PBKS) against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). In a high-scoring match, the Shreyas Iyer-led side continued their winning streak and defeated the Super Giants by 54 runs. LSG suffered its fourth defeat of the season.
LSG won the toss and elected to field first and made two changes, with M Siddharth and Mohsin Khan getting the nod. Punjab fielded the same team that played a role in their win in their previous match against Mumbai Indians (MI). It was the second match of the double header on Sunday and fans reached the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh PCA Stadium, New Chandigarh in large numbers.
Massacre of Priyansh and Cooper in New Chandigarh
Mohammed Shami gave the Super Giants the start they needed by dismissing Prabhsimran Singh in the very first over. However, Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly had other ideas as both the batsmen caused complete carnage in the match and smashed the LSG bowlers all over the park. Both the batsmen made a partnership of 182 runs for the second wicket.
Priyansh Arya, who was out for 93 off 37 balls, missed a century, and Connolly came back after playing a quickfire 87. Kings were put in the driver’s seat and from there PBKS’s middle order took over. Shreyas Iyer’s game was not good and he was out after scoring five runs.
Marcus Stoinis was run out for 29 on the last ball of the over, and a few runs from Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh helped the home team post a mammoth score of 254/7 in 20 overs.
LSG failed to survive in the middle overs
While chasing, LSG tried a new opening combination with Mitchell Marsh introducing Ayush Badoni; He started well by scoring 61 runs in the power play. However, after this they could not withstand the pressure in the middle overs and wickets kept falling and Rishabh Pant was out after scoring 43 runs.
Later, Aiden Markram and Mukul Choudhary gave their best efforts as both the batsmen ended at 204/5. Markram was out on the second and last ball on the score of 42 runs and Mukul remained unbeaten on the score of 21 runs.
Shreyas Iyer
After the match, Shreyas Iyer was happy with his team’s performance and was surprised by the hitting of Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly during the first innings. During the presentation after the match, Shreyas Iyer also praised his bowlers.
Shreyas Iyer said, “Exceptional partnership, some of the shots were mind-blowing. Hitting the fast bowlers straight off the backfoot. The composure in the middle overs was sensational. Was talking with Cooper and Arya, said let’s compete for the most sixes. The prize is my bat, it doesn’t mean anything but hopefully it will cheer us up.”
“When you let players play, I think they just perform. That’s our mantra. I don’t tell them how to play their specific innings, they have their own pattern set. Ricky motivates just before the game, I chip, the boys come and perform. Most of our bowlers are international bowlers with immense experience. We have plans against certain batsmen, it’s all about execution. They just shouldn’t get complacent.”
