Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has parted ways with the Indian team and has decided to stay in Australia for an extended period of time to get adequate treatment for his rib injury. Following the massive update, his participation in the South Africa series has been put in major doubt.

During India’s campaign against Australia in the three-match ODI tour, Shreyas Iyer emerged as a dominant force in the Indian batting line-up. His innings of 61 in the second game in Adelaide and his 118-run partnership with Rohit Sharma saved India from another embarrassing Perth-like defeat.

However, Shreyas was seriously hit on the chest as he ran backwards and pounced on a ball, diving forward to take a brilliant catch. His left ribs hit the ground hard and the pain was all over his face.

Shreyas Iyer stays in Sydney, delay in returning to India after major injury

However, the update made it clear that Shreyas Iyer did not have any fractures, as revealed by multiple scans conducted after he was taken to the hospital soon after leaving the field. He did not come out to bat for India, as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli completed the chase with 9 wickets remaining.

According to RevSportz, despite there being no fractures, it will take a few more days for him to be cleared from a Sydney hospital to travel and fly back home to India. As soon as Iyer reaches India, he is expected to report to the COE soon and begin his recovery as well as rehabilitation process under the supervision of BCCI doctors.

Shreyas Iyer is not part of India’s T20 team against Australia

While Iyer is yet to come to India, players like Virat Kohli have already gone back to London, and Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have returned to India. Captain Shubman Gill and other players have joined the Indian T20 team, which reached Canberra on Saturday.

Suryakumar Yadav, captain, Jasprit Bumrah and Rinku Singh were among the players who reached the Australian capital on Saturday. Shreyas Iyer is not a part of the Indian T20I squad as he is yet to make a comeback in this format.

Many well-known names like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mohammed Siraj are also not included in the T20I XI. The coaching and support staff also met the rest of the team players on Sunday.

If Shreyas does not go on the South Africa tour, will it open the doors for Rishabh Pant to return to ODIs?

After such a serious injury, Shreyas Iyer’s comeback period can be predicted to be more than 3-4 weeks, although nothing has been officially revealed yet. In such a situation, Shreyas will be ruled out of the home ODI series against South Africa as his comeback before November 30 seems difficult.

Rishabh Pant, who once lost his number. Fourth place for Shreyas Iyer, this can be considered as a great opportunity to make a comeback in ODI. He is expected to make a comeback to international cricket with the South Africa Test series. Till the announcement of the teams for the competition, there will be a long wait for the call from the Indian selectors.
