Shreyas Iyer sent a strong message before IPL 2026

The Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is scheduled to begin on March 28 with defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Ahead of the IPL, last year’s finalists, Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer, along with Arshdeep Singh, came to an event in Mohali to unveil the team’s new jersey.

Speaking ahead of the IPL, Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh talked about PBKS winning their first IPL title, overcoming personal challenges and their deep connection with the franchise. Iyer also discussed the team’s bonding with the newcomers and how to build a strong bond off the field before the high-pressure games begin.

We live like a family for two months- Shreyas Iyer

“This is the period where we live as a family for two months,” Shreyas said. “The more time we spend together, the more we get to know each other. Now is the time to build on that camaraderie. We spend most of our time in the game room, playing FIFA and other games.”

“The planning and plotting of matches usually happens a day or two before the game, but building this bond off the field helps us ultimately get better results.”

It is always challenging- Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer also discussed about his rib injury which he suffered during India’s tour to Australia. Iyer missed the ODIs after suffering an injury and returned to the team during the New Zealand ODI series at home in 2026. She also revealed about the challenges she faced and her weight loss.

Shreyas Iyer said, “It is always challenging to make a comeback after injury. I had lost about 7 kg and it took a lot of effort to get that weight back, but I love challenges. I am happy that I overcame that part of my life and I am here representing the team with pride.”

“Expectations are very high, which is fun. I like the challenge but the important thing is that every time we go, we have to win. I have my eye on the trophy.”

It is a matter of good fortune- Arshdeep Singh

India’s T20 World Cup winner Arshdeep Singh reflected his captain’s confidence, especially when discussing playing in front of his enthusiastic home crowd in Mullanpur. He also thanked the franchise for believing in him and supporting him at the beginning of his career.

“When you feel pressure, it’s a privilege. It’s so much fun when you get so much support from the crowd. When people are cheering for you, you feel like there are 30,000 people running with you. We will try our best to win all our home matches this year,” Arshdeep said.

Arshdeep further added, “The journey has been amazing. When I first came here, they gave me full support and showed me my potential. They trusted me a lot when no other team did. I really appreciate it, and I want to stay here for a long time. I am looking forward to winning a lot of trophies for the team.”
