Shreyanka Patil out? Indian spinner suffers serious injury during ICC Women’s T20 World Cup

India women’s national cricket team is playing the Netherlands national cricket team in match number 10 of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. During the match, India women’s cricketer Shreyanka Patil was taken off the field on a stretcher. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) spinner fell awkwardly on the field while bowling.

This is a serious concern for the Women in Blues, as they have had a stellar performance with the ball. Shreyanka Patil twisted her ankle while fielding during the match. He was seen in pain after landing awkwardly while chasing the ball near the midwicket region. As soon as the play stopped for a while, the team physio arrived on the field to assess his condition.

Shreyanka Patil out?

The incident occurred when the batsman pushed the ball down the leg side, with Shreyanka Patil attempting to stop the extra runs before getting injured. She is unable to stand on her right leg and has to be dragged in a buggy. It was really disappointing to see this. She was out for more than a year due to multiple injuries.

Shreyanka Patil returned to the WPL this season and was keen to perform well in the competition. The team hopes that the injury is not as serious as it seems. Since India Women will take on South Africa in their next game, they also have Australia in their group.

Before the match, Sheryanka Patil said, “Absolutely, it was a great start. India-Pakistan is something we all look forward to, really the game. And then actually getting those two points was very important for us. Yes, it was a great win overall. (On experiencing the World Cup atmosphere in England) It’s absolutely, it’s very electrifying. It’s very amazing to be here because I’m playing here in England for the first time.”

“So I’m enjoying it a lot and yes, it’s great to see some fans here, including a lot of Indian fans. (On how the team is coming together during the tournament) Yes, the tournament has just started. We are going very well. We are playing our A game. So we hope to continue that and yes, hopefully we will lift the trophy outside leg-stump.”

“(On being favorites against the Netherlands) I mean there’s always pressure in every game we play. I think we have to play our A game no matter who the opponent is. We just have to keep our heads up, do our job and cross the line,” he said.

In the match, Netherlands won the toss and decided to bowl first and India scored a huge score of 209/5 in the stipulated 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma got off to a good start for India and made a partnership of 115 runs, with both the batsmen scoring fifties on 74 and 55 respectively.
