Although Hardik Pandya has not officially announced retirement from Test cricket, it has made it clear that his body cannot handle five days of hard work on the field, and BCCI has decided to keep the all-rounder away from the red-ball cricket in domestic cricket.

Now, Shreyas Iyer is planning to blow Indian selectors and fans by at least informally moving away from Test cricket. Recently, Iyer stepped as the captain of India and withdrew from the ongoing informal test against Australia A in Lucknow.

The right -handed batsman returned to Mumbai a few hours before the match, citing personal reasons, forced the selectors to nominate Dhruv Jurlel as captain for the game. Their sudden exit caused speculation about the future of the Test, as the Indian selectors are ready to take the name of the squad for the two -match Test series against the West Indies at home.

But the story is completely different from perceptions. As reported by News 24, Iyer is not fully committed to red-ball cricket due to the continuous back-issues, making it difficult for him to bear five-day matches. Sources indicated that Iyer now wants to fully focus on the formats of the white ball.

A news 24 journalist was quoted by a BCCI top official as saying, “Shreyas Iyer is not very keen to play Test cricket due to his back injury. He cannot stand on the field for five days. He only wants to focus on white-ball cricket. The West Indies series is most likely to remember.”

Despite being an important person in India’s ODI setup, Iyer has struggled to secure a place in tests and even remembered the tour of England and the Asia Cup 2025, despite helping the IPL 2025 and Punjab Kings (PBK) reach the IPL 2025.

Now, Iyer’s future looks uncertain in the long format as he prioritizes fitness and white-ball cricket.

In particular, after a four-day red-ball matches, India will take the three-match informal ODI series at Green Park, Kanpur on A Australia A.

The series will kick on 30 September, in which Rajat Patidar led the 13-man squad in the first game. For the remaining matches, Tilak Verma, who is currently part of India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad in the United Arab Emirates, will take over as captains.
