India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma was allegedly playing with a hamstring injury during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 earlier this year. Despite not being fully fit, Rohit Sharma led India the glory of the title in Dubai.
Former Indian selector Jatin Paranjpe revealed that Rohit was struggling with the hamstring issue for about four to five months. Despite the lack of pain and rest, the experienced Indian opener continued to play and guide the team like a true leader.

He directed men in blue to win a historic four wickets over New Zealand in the final. Rohit, who had already retired from T20I after India’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Glory, announced his retirement from Test cricket in May. But Parjpe realized that Rohit was still a lot to give to the team.

Jatin Paranjap was said by Toi: “He could have played a little more. I thought perhaps for a few more years. Rohit Sharma too had been struggling with hamstring injury for the last four or five months. He did not get much rest.”

Paranjpe said, “I thought he could play a little more because he was batting brilliantly. You know, he would score 10 or 15 or 20, but that hook shot – he was his trademark. Amazing.”
Before winning the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Rohit won the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. As a captain, Rohit led India to two ICC titles and also directed Mumbai Indians to five IPL trophies.

Meanwhile, fans will have to wait longer to return to Rohit Sharma’s return to ODI colors. As mentioned by Khel Now, the white-ball chain proposed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has been demolished, after postponing the tour of Bangladesh before, the return of the hitman was once again delayed.
Recently, India’s White-Ball Tour was pushed by September 2026 due to security concerns. Subsequently, SLC offered India to host India for three Odis and three T20I in August 2025, but the BCCI has almost rejected the proposal due to the Asia Cup 2025.
A BCCI official said, “We will decide about the series, but this is unlikely.”
Rohit will now focus his attention against Australia in October against Australia and against South Africa in the upcoming ODI matches of India in November and December. India will play three ODIs against each Australia and South Africa. Hitman has been one of India’s best ODI players.
The right -handed batsman has so far scored 11,168 runs in 273 matches, including 32 centuries. His top score of 264 is the highest by any player in the history of ODI cricket.
