India preferred to go with Shardul Thakur as a pace-bouling all-rounder in that match, and all Mumbai veterans were unable to make a major impact in four innings.
Gautam Gambhir’s led team management was quick to take a major step and leave Shardul Thakur for the second Test, making way for Nitish Kumar Reddy at the playing XI.
Reddy was given an opportunity to bat at number 6 with Karun Nair. The 22-year-old all-rounder went out to bat after Rishabh Pant’s dismissal in the 61st over and dismissed the next.
On the fourth ball of the 62nd over, veteran Pesar Chris Woakes bowled a good length ball outside the off-stump for Nitish Kumar Reddy, which was full of a brain, thinking that there was no threat to stumps.
Nitish Kumar Reddy did not give any shot for that delivery and gave the ball a fast shape to rat his stumps. The all -rounder was rejected for 1 run off 6 balls.
