Former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has questioned the strategy of India’s team, especially the role of Shivam Dubey, ahead of his Super Four Clash in 2025 against Pakistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on 21 September.
Shivam Dubey has been included as a batting all -rounder in the XI of India, but his performance in the tournament has been inconsistent so far. In India’s group-phase matches, Dube has been reshuffled around the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 between bowling and batting roles.
He impressed with the magic of three wickets against the UAE, but did not get a chance to bat in Dubai. In a second encounter against Pakistan, Dub batted briefly for 10*, but did not bowl.

And then, Seam Balling All -rounder struggled in both departments in the previous group match, scored just five runs off eight balls and scored 31 runs in three overs against Oman in Abu Dhabi.

Beyond the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four Match against India and Pakistan, Ravichandran Ashwin questioned the argument behind Shivam Dubey as additional bowling options ahead of expert like Harshit Rana.
He suggested that male male batting and bowling in blue color may rethink Shivam Dubey as the Asia Cup 2025 reached the final stage.

Ravichandran Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, “The match must have taught India a great lesson. I am really doubting the effect of being Shivam Duba as an additional bowler. If you definitely need a bowler in that situation, you will be better to play Hardit Rana and bat.”
The former Indian off-spinner also praised Oman’s surprising performance against the Indian side, stating that the absence of stars like Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakraborty gave visitors a chance to show their skills on the batting-friendly pitch in Abu Dhabi.
Ashwin said, “Come in the match, a rare secret like Bumrah and a rare secret like Varun Chalwarvarni did not play spinner. Therefore, if you remove these two and are good to bat on the pitch, Oman showed that he has some quality. At the same time, there were some lessons for India.”
