Shivam Dubey missed an easy opportunity in the very first over of the run chase of the T20 World Cup 2026 final match. New Zealand opener Finn Allen could have been out very early on the fifth ball of the first over of the second innings, if Dubey had managed to catch the ball.
Arshdeep Singh was ready to celebrate, but his momentum diminished as the ball soon escaped the fielder’s palms. Replays show that the ball may have touched the fingers and then fallen on the ground. New Zealand got only 4 runs in the first over of the second innings, but the most important thing was that they got a lease of life.
Finn Allen failed to use extra lifeline
However, Finn Allen, who scored a match-winning century against South Africa in the semi-finals, could not stay on the pitch for long in the final against India. The aggressive opener was out after scoring 9(7) runs. Akshar Patel took a wicket in the third over of the innings.
