Shimron Hetmyer pulled off a surprise move to dismiss Scotland opener George Munsey in the West Indies vs Scotland T20 World Cup 2026 Match 2 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The catch claimed by Hetmyer is currently in the race for the tournament.
Scotland began the pursuit cautiously. The West Indies bowling line-up was not allowing the batsmen to spare their hands. Due to the increasing asking run rate, George Munsey had no option but to take the aerial route.
Shimron Hetmyer took a catch like Superman
He hit Shamar Joseph with a flat bat which went towards the deep backward square leg region, where Hetmyer caught the ball in the air. Without making any mistake, the fielder extended his hand, threw his body in the air and placed it on his palm. A one-handed stunner to dismiss the batsman.

Hetmyer was the brightest star for West Indies
West Indies faced the Scotland cricket team for the second match of the T20 World Cup 2026. Ahead of the tournament, the Caribbean team was not in its best form, hence they had to make a strong start to their T20 World Cup campaign.
However his ignition was not perfect enough to talk about. Batting first, they lost their opening batsman in a short span of time. Hope was out after scoring only 19 runs. When West Indies’ score was 54 runs, the captain lost his wicket and when the team’s score was 58 runs, his opening partner Brandon King (35) returned to the pavilion.
West Indies started showcasing their true batting prowess as Shimron Hetmyer came into the middle. The middle-order attacker took very little time to settle down on the track and scored a half-century. With the help of Hetmyer’s brilliant inning of 64 runs in 36 balls, West Indies scored 182/5 in the first innings of the match.
In his 36-ball innings, the aggressive batsman hit six sixes and two fours to demolish the Scotland bowling attack. The dreadful shots took his strike rate to 177.78. Hetmyer’s single effort could be decisive for the outcome of the match.
West Indies in the driving seat
A target of 182 runs can be achieved in modern cricket. But does the Scotland cricket team have enough firepower to do so? This was the only question after the end of the first innings. He started the run chase cautiously, nothing heroic, but sensibly.
While the Scottish top-order batsman was trying to adjust himself in the middle, Hetmyer again took a flying catch. This kind of catch can prove to be enough to break the mentality of the opposition team at any time of the match. Hetmyer’s one-handed catch increased West Indies’ chances of winning their first match of the 2026 T20 World Cup manifold.
