Former Team India Batter Shikhar Dhawan was called on Thursday for questioning in a money laundering investigation related to an illegal online betting app by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Investigations include allegations that the forum used surrogate advertisements to collect funds from users.
Suresh Raina was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate last month regarding the same money laundering investigation. Actor Rana Daggubati also appeared before the agency in Hyderabad in July. Raina’s statements were recorded under the prevention of the Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The 39 -year -old cricketer has reported to promote the app through social media endorsements, which the ED examined the limits of their participation in these promotional activities.
As part of the investigation, Dhawan’s statement will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The agency is investigating several cases related to illegal betting app, including 1xbet, who is accused of cheating investors worth crores of rupees and advancing important taxes.
Shikhar Dhawan’s brilliant career for Team India
Shikhar Dhawan enjoyed a notable international career for India, scoring more than 10,000 runs. The left -handed batsman is shown in 34 tests, 167 Odis and 68 T20I.
He scored 2,315 runs in tests, 6,793 in Odis and 1,759 in T20Is. Dhawan recorded seven centuries and five fifties, 17 hundreds and 39 half -centuries, and the highest score of 92 in the 11 T20i fifty.
At the later stages of his career, Dhawan moved down the Peking order as Shubman Gill, Yashsvi Jiswal, and Ruturaj Gikwad as emerging players. He last played the T20I match against Sri Lanka in July 2021. Southpai played his last ODI against Bangladesh in 2022.
Enforcement Directorate checks social media and app-based platforms
The Enforcement Directorate is investigating platforms related to illegal betting and gambling, including promotion through social media and app stores.
In 2023, India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting directed several advisors to not promote online betting services to newspapers, TV channels, online news publishers, digital advertising intermediaries and social media platforms.
However, many celebrities in the entertainment and sports fields continued to support platforms that attract the attention of the ED, which can call them for inquiry.
“These platforms violate many laws and directions by the Government of India, including tax evasion, money laundering, and Forex Management Act (FEMA), as money is illegally transferred out of the country. It is estimated that around 220 million Indian users are engaged on betting apps, and 110 million are regular users,” said the official.
