Shashank Singh makes PBKS winners ahead of IPL 2026

Punjab Kings finished IPL 2025 as runners-up for the second time in IPL history and are one of the three teams that are yet to win the IPL trophy. The PBKS vice-captain has now promised to end the drought in the upcoming season.

Punjab Kings have been an integral part of the Indian Premier League for over 18 seasons. Shreyas Iyer was made the captain of the team, while Shashank Singh, one of the two players retained in the team, was made the vice-captain.

PBKS planned a brilliant auction and did not buy too many players. He kept the main side the same for the upcoming season while leaving out players like Josh Inglis and Glenn Maxwell. They included spin bowling all-rounder Cooper Connolly and fast bowling backup Ben Dwarshuis.

We will correct our mistakes and make you proud – Shashank Singh

Punjab Kings made it to the finals of the competition in IPL 2025, after topping the points table with 9 wins from 14 matches played in 2025. They shared a common 19 points with RCB by the end of the group stage, and took the lead on run rate.

Despite reaching the final, they lost the match to RCB and missed out on getting their hands on their first IPL trophy. When Shreyas Iyer sat out for a game or two, Shashank Singh was seen leading PBKS. Someone told the PBKS player about this.

“No, sir, you are absolutely right. It has been a very long time since this happened – 18 years to be precise. But last year, we learned many things and corrected some mistakes, and this year we will make sure that people feel more proud and we celebrate together,” he said.

PBKS vice-captain backs himself for better performance on his home ground

Last year, Punjab Kings did not have the best performance in home conditions at the new Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. They lost many of their home matches and instead won most of their matches at several away venues in India.

Shashank was asked, “The way home ground is always discussed, they say that Punjab loses most of the matches at home. How much do you think they have to learn from their home ground?”

The PBKS star replied, “Sure sir, last year, as you said, our results on home grounds were not that good, but obviously this time we corrected a lot of our mistakes, especially as a batting unit, where we mostly struggled last time. We worked on the technical points and you will see, this year we are going to do better.”

We have to repeat what we did last year; There is not much to plan- Shashank Singh reveals PBKS strategies

As mentioned earlier, PBKS did not bring in many new players. They have only made a few new inclusions and may not be making any major changes in their strategies either.

He claimed, “23 of our 25 players are the same from last year, so there is very good bonding; everyone knows their roles and what they did last year, which has to be repeated.”

After this he further said, “I think there is no need to think too much about cricket. This year the strategy will be that we have to repeat last year’s performance because it is very difficult. We did not win in the final, but you must have seen that the journey till the final was good. We just need to keep repeating it.”

“Ricky sir and Shreyas (Iyer), where they are, their combination and their partnership is excellent; they make sure everyone stays in their comfort zone and I think the next 2-2.5 months will be a lifetime memory for us,” he said.
