All -rounder Shardul Thakur reduced in the first innings

The Thakur Border-Gavaskar Trophy is making a comeback to the Indian Test setup after Australia disappeared from his previous tour for 2024-25.

He made his comeback behind a stunning all-round performance for Mumbai in domestic cricket. Thakur was not highly influential in two informal test matches against England Lions, but he displayed his talent in an intra-skavad match.

Shardul Thakur’s performance impressed the team management, and helped him play in XI over Nitish Kumar Reddy, as Gautam Gambhir would also have felt the need for a better bowler as an all-rounder.

However, in India’s first innings with the ball, Skipper Shubman Gill did not show much confidence in Shardul Thakur. Out of 100.4 overs, Team India bowled, Thakur bowled only six in Headingley in Leeds.

Thakur was not well used by Gill, and whenever he was handed over to him, he was expensive and unfortunately leaked 38 runs in his six overs.

Shardul Thakur Shine in 4th innings

Meanwhile, things were quite different in the fourth innings of the match. Shubman Gill showed confidence in Thakur, and the all -rounder paid it with a great performance.

In his first few overs, Thakur was not threatened, but from anywhere, he produced a wonderful double-vick to dismiss the Centurion Ben Docket and Harry Brook.

On the third ball of the 55th over, Thakur delivered Ben Docket to a full-length delivery to Nitish Kumar Reddy, covering it with the Indian regional, who was taking a good catch to send the British back to 149.

On the next ball, Thakur bowled a half a walley on the leg-stump to Harry Brook, which went towards the ball, tried to push it forward, but only managed to sideline it, and Rishabh Pants took a surprising diving catch to reject the batsman for a duck.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Michael Etharton appreciated Thakur for ending a brilliant innings of Ben Docket and dismissed Harry Brook for a duck to help India return.

“This is a huge wicket..Thakur needed to produce something in this game, and now, in a vital moment, he takes a wicket. Catching is important in this match, they are not always stuck, but this is one. It is a brilliant innings from the docket. He has not found the England house, but he has not found a long way.”

“This is a wonderful playing of cricket. Brooke cannot believe it. India is back,” Michael Etharton said
