Shane McDermott is no longer part of the Pakistan men’s national cricket team for the white-ball format, as he has resigned from his job amid the team’s transition phase. Pakistan cricket team is going through a phase of change.
To shape the team into a new form across all formats, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already made some changes to the team and is expected to make more moves in the future.

Why did Shane McDermott resign from his job?
Like the future of the players, the future of the coaching staff is also not secure, as mentioned earlier. As there was uncertainty over the job, renowned fielding coach Shane McDermott resigned from the role of fielding coach of the Pakistan national cricket team.
Shane McDermott joined the team almost a year ago, on July 4, 2025, with years of experience in the field. After completing one year with the team, he quit.
The PCB will have to appoint a new fielding coach as soon as possible, as the team has to play several bilateral series and a multi-nation ODI series before the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2027. Schenn joined the team under head coach Mike Hesson, who is still in effect.
Official confirmation is yet to come
At present, no official confirmation or any statement has come from the Cricket Board regarding the resignation. The veteran coach’s LinkedIn bio still reads, “Currently employed by Pakistan Cricket Board as Assistant Coach of the National Team”, which is expected to be updated soon.
Before joining Pakistan cricket team, Shane McDermott was associated with Afghanistan cricket team. After withdrawing from Bangladesh cricket team, he worked for Afghanistan cricket team for about 1 year and 7 months. He worked with the Bangladesh cricket team from March 2022 to January 2024.
Before joining the Bangladesh national cricket team, Shane McDermott was with the Sri Lanka men’s national cricket team for more than a few years. Amidst his notable stints as assistant coach and fielding coach with several national teams, the South Australia-born player served Cricket Australia as the assistant coach of the Australia A team for over 6 years.
From 2005 to 2007, he was involved in Bangladesh cricket as the head coach for their national academy and the team’s strength and conditioning head coach.
Pakistan will play two consecutive tests from the end of this month
Under his guidance, the Pakistan cricket team made marked improvements in fielding, which was considered one of their weak points over the years.
Later this month, the Men in Green will face West Indies for a few Test matches, before leaving for England for another Test series. Pakistan will face England for a three-match Test series.
The first Test against West Indies is scheduled to begin on July 25; Before that, PCB can announce the name of the new fielding coach for the team.
