Shane McDermot named Pakistan’s all-format fielding coach in front of Bangladesh tour

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has allegedly signed Australian fielding expert Shane McDermot as its new fielding coach in all three forms. While PCB has not yet made an official announcement, McDermot is likely to join the squad before the White-Ball series against Bangladesh.

Shane was one of the finalists considered for the McDermot role. He has experience in both international and domestic cricket and has three high performance level coaching certificates. McDermot has previously worked with teams from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and their original Australia.

According to a report by Telecom Asia Sport, McDermot is set to join Pakistan’s national team as part of its assistant employees. McDermot received support from the newly appointed white-ball coach Mike Hessen.

The 44 -year -old is expected to start his term against Bangladesh with the upcoming three -match T20I series, which is scheduled to begin on Sunday, 20 July at Shere Bungalow National Stadium in Dhaka. The Pakistan Cricket Board is likely to confirm his appointment later this week.

“Pakistan has secured the services of the famous Australian fielding expert Shane McDermot as his all-format fielding coach,” sources confirmed the Asia Sport to the Telecom on Friday.

The report said, “McDermot is highly recommended by Pakistan’s new white-ball head coach, Mike Hessen, and is expected to join the team before the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. An official announcement is estimated at the end of this week.”

Shane McDermot’s fielding coach experience from domestic and international teams

Shane McDermot served as an assistant fielding coach for the national side of Bangladesh between 2022 and 2023. He left after disagreement with head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe.

After exiting Bangladesh, McDermot joined Afghanistan’s coaching setup and earned praise for helping the team guide the team in the semi -finals of the ICC T20 World Cup in June 2024.

Earlier, she worked at the National Cricket Center in Cricket Australia in Brisbane from 2012 to 2019, with interim assistant coaches, fielding coaches, and performance analysts with Australia A team.

McDermot also spent three years before guiding the fielding efforts for the senior team of Sri Lanka for the senior team of Sri Lanka.

Pakistan’s busy schedule begins with the T20I series in Bangladesh

Pakistan’s fielding, often criticized for its inconsistency in important moments, is ready to achieve a boost with the appointment of Shane McDermot as the new all-format fielding coach. The purpose of PCB is to increase standards and bring a more professional structure under a revived coaching setup.

The team will have a busy program, which will start with a T20I series in Bangladesh, followed by five T20Is in the West Indies.

Among other developments, former all -rounder Azhar Mahmood has been named interim head coach for the test side. PCB is likely to appoint Salman Aga as the new all-format captain, which is the place of Shan Masood in the tests and Mohammad Rizwan in Odis.
