Bangladesh Sports Advisor Asif Mahmood has announced that Shakib Al Hasan will no longer represent the national cricket team, congratulating former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her birthday after Star’s social media post. This statement has serious doubt on Shakib’s future with Bangladesh cricket.
Shakib has not represented Bangladesh since October 2024 and has been excluded from all formats amidst political unrest in the country. The experienced all -rounder is facing serious allegations including corruption and murder, which is associated with his tenure as the Awami League MP under the former Sheikh Hasina Sarkar.

The controversy began when Shakib Al Hasan shared a social media message, indicating a secret response from Asif Mahmud. Shakib replied that Asif’s actions were the reason she could not represent Bangladesh, while someday expressed the hope of returning to her motherland.
“You all misused me a lot to not rehabilitate a person. But I was right. The end of the discussion,” Asif replied.
Shakib went ahead and posted, “So someone has finally accepted that it is because of him that I can never put Bangladesh jersey again, because I can not play for Bangladesh again. Maybe I will return to my motherland one day. Love you, Bangladesh.”

Bangladesh Sports Advisor Asif Mahmood has said that Shakib Al Hasan will never be allowed to represent the national team, which cite a deep participation of cricketers in Awami League politics.
Talking to Dhaka-based channel 24, he said that Shakib is closely connected to the party, making it impossible for him to carry Bangladesh flag. He confirmed that he would instruct BCB to Bar Shakib by future selection.
“We cannot let him carry the flag of Bangladesh,” said Asif. “It would not be possible for me to allow him to wear Bangladesh jersey.
“At the time when he has asked to enter the country, to play for Bangladesh, he said that Awami League had given him to him. [2024 general election] Forcibly nomination. He claimed that he was not involved in politics. He wanted to become an MP to work for the people of his region [Magura]However, the truth is that he is complexly involved in Awami League politics. ,
Sheikh Hasina has always followed cricket seriously – Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib Al Hasan defended his social media post, saying that he wishes Sheikh Hasina based on a long -standing relationship through cricket. He said that the message had no purpose and did not intend to provoke anyone.
“He [Hasina] Always followed cricket seriously – this is not right, “he said.” She was deeply involved with cricket. Even before politics, there was a relationship through him. I wished him from that point of view. There was no other purpose, or was trying to provoke someone. ,
Shakib Al Hasan has not returned to Bangladesh since the government’s expulsion during the student -led revolution. However, he continued testing against Pakistan and India last year and remained active in the franchise league.
In the last 12 months, Shakib has not been selected for the national team. He missed the Champions Trophy after thwarting the revaluation test for his bowling action. Bangladesh appointed Linton Das as T20I captain and Mehidi Hasan Miraj and led the ODI and test sides.
Shakib has taken 246 wickets in 71 Tests on an average of 31.72, including 19 five wickets Houles and two ten-cicat matches. He has 317 wickets in an average 247 Odis of 29.52, while he has taken 149 wickets in 126 T20I at an average of 20.91 with the economy of 6.81.
