Setback for MI? Jasprit Bumrah took a break from T20 cricket

Jasprit Bumrah will give more priority to the ODI format than the other two formats – Test and T20I. This report surfaced ahead of the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), which has created some concerns among Mumbai Indians (MI) fans as the fast bowler is set to play for the 5-time IPL winning team again.

Hopefully the pacer’s workload will be managed next year to keep him fresh for the ODI World Cup in 2027. Bumrah, an important member of the team, will gradually shift his focus from T20 to ODI.

According to PTI, Jasprit Bumrah will remain with the team for the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) and apparently the ODI matches, making it doubtful that he will play only in the T20 format.

“Obviously, as always, Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness is the key to any global campaign for India, and so the Indian team management has to be very careful and prioritize formats. Keep aside Test cricket, which he will obviously play, but in the 50-over World Cup cycle, he will be more focused on the ODIs”, a BCCI source close to the development told PTI.

“There will be around 30-35 odd games, and one cannot take any risks,” the source further told the news agency.

IPL 2026 is expected to start from March 28 and end with the final on May 31, 2026. The board has not yet announced the full schedule of the tournament. With LPG supplies affected due to state elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu and conflict in West Asia, after assessing all the circumstances, the Board cannot cancel the conduct of IPL 2026 in two different phases.

Jasprit Bumrah is all set to play for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026. But will he play in all their matches? This question comes to the fore as reports indicate uncertainty over his T20 career for the coming few months.
