According to a recent report by Cricbuzz, another international tour will be added to the Indian national cricket team’s 2026 calendar. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket Ireland are finalizing the details of the two-match white-ball series to be held in Dublin in late June.
The Suryakumar Yadav-led side recently clinched the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 with a win over New Zealand in the final in Ahmedabad. Notably, the Men in Blue will host Afghanistan for a multi-format series in June 2026, comprising one Test and three ODIs across four venues from June 6 to 20.
India to tour Ireland for T20I series amid tight 2026 schedule
According to Cricbuzz, two matches between India and Ireland are likely to be played in T20I format. The T20 World 2026 champions will tour Ireland in between their existing bilateral commitments against the Afghanistan national cricket team and the overseas tour against the England national cricket team.
The Men in Blue will conclude their home series against Afghanistan on June 20. Following the Ireland series, the team will travel to Chester-le-Street to face England for five T20 Internationals and three ODIs from July 1.
BCCI had recently hinted at this schedule involving players and support staff during the Naman Awards in New Delhi. While the Men in Blue have typically played three matches during recent trips to Ireland, finding a window in the calendar remains difficult.
Ireland look to bounce back after disappointing T20 World Cup 2026 campaign
Ireland had a disappointing group-stage exit during the T20 World Cup 2026. They suffered early defeats against the Sri Lanka national cricket team and the Australia national cricket team before making a late comeback effort.
Although the Ireland national cricket team managed to defeat the Oman national cricket team during the group stage, their final match against the Zimbabwe national cricket team was abandoned without a single ball being bowled.
They will be hoping to improve their overall performance against the visiting national cricket team in India. Notably, Ireland captain Paul Stirling resigned from the T20I captaincy after a disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup.
Ireland’s Busy Future Tour Schedule
Cricket Ireland has also outlined its future tour schedule for next summer. Their upcoming international commitments include hosting the New Zealand national cricket team for a one-off Test before preparing to face a number of Asian opponents in various limited overs formats.
Ireland is also scheduled to host the Bangladesh national cricket team and the Afghanistan national cricket team for comprehensive series. Cricket Ireland must confirm the final dates within the next week, as logistical challenges mean some of those initial schedules are in doubt.
Meanwhile, the BCCI is working to add more fixtures to India’s already packed 12-month calendar. The World Cup-winning Indian team is expected to play additional series in UAE, Bangladesh and Japan during the much-awaited Asian Games.
