Zimbabwe Cricket Harare Sports Club has unveiled the 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20 international series against Sri Lanka starting on Wednesday (3 September). The remaining two fixtures will also be played at the same place on Saturday and Sunday.

The series comes at a significant turn to Zimbabwe as they prepare for ICC men’s T20 World Cup Africa qualifiers, which will also be staged in Harare at the end of this month.

Sean Williams and Brendon Taylor return to Boster Zimbabwe Squad

A major boost for the domestic side is the return of veteran all-rounder Sean Williams, who last depicted the T20I against Bangladesh in May 2024. Known for his ability to anchor the innings and contribute with his left -arm spin, Williams’s return strengthened both batting order and bowling. Their experience will be priceless as Zimbabwe is trying to speed up the qualifier.

In another important inclusion, former captain and star wicketkeeper-bater Brendon Taylor has been called back to the T20I squad after a 4-year gap. Taylor’s return adds depth in the middle order of Zimbabwe, while his leadership properties and ability to handle high pressure conditions can prove to be decisive against a competitive Sri Lankan side.

Fast bowler Brad Evans and Top-Order Batter Tadivanasha Marumani The squads have also earned space in the squad, underlining the intentions of the selectors to mix the youth with experience. However, there are some notable exclusion. Pneumon Nyamhuri, Wesley Madhavre, Vincent Maseca and Tafdzwa Tsiga – all of which painted in a triangular chain against New Zealand and South Africa last month – miss out around this time.
