Shardul Thakur may have to miss Vijay Hazare Trophy due to injury

Shardul Thakur may miss the remaining matches of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy after suffering an injury while playing for Mumbai against Maharashtra in Jaipur. The injury occurred during a group match on Saturday, January 3.

Thakur had to leave the field after bowling 6.5 overs and was seen limping. Later he came to bat but could score only four runs in five balls. Mumbai lost the match by 128 runs.

After the game, Thakur underwent an MRI scan to check the severity of the injury. The results of the scan will decide whether he can play again in the tournament or not.

The possible injury is a big blow for Mumbai. Thakur had a good start to the season and took 11 wickets in his first four matches. The discomfort affected his bowling against Maharashtra and he finished the match without taking a wicket.

Mumbai awaits scan results of Shardul Thakur and Sarfaraz Khan before the knockout stage

Mumbai are facing an anxious wait as they await the scan results of Shardul Thakur and Sarfaraz Khan, whose absence could hurt their campaign at a crucial stage. With the knockout rounds approaching, the team hopes the injuries will be precautionary rather than season-ending.

Mumbai has performed strongly in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Under Thakur’s leadership, they have won four of their five matches and are second in the elite Group C standings.

Mumbai are scheduled to play Himachal Pradesh in Jaipur on January 6, but the availability of Sarfaraz and Thakur for the match is unclear. If Thakur is ruled out for the rest of the season, the team will also have to decide who will take over the captaincy for the remaining matches.
