Young cricketer Sarfaraz Khan was expected to participate in India’s upcoming two-match test series against the West Indies, which is scheduled to begin on domestic soil on 2 October. BCCI chief selector Ajit Agkar confirmed that the mid-order batsman was injured while announcing the 15-member squad for the tests.

Sarfaraz Khan is currently undergoing rehabilitation in Excellence of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru after a quadriseples injury. During his rehabilitation, he successfully approved the Yo-Yo Fitness Test, with a score of 17, according to the Indian Express.

Sarfaraz has regained his fitness levels and is on track for a possible return to competitive cricket. Earlier, he was slated to represent the West Zone in the 2025 Dalip Trophy, but had to withdraw due to his injury.

Sarfaraz Khan was included in Mumbai squad for Ranji Trophy 2025-26

Sarfaraz Khan has been included in the 24-member squad in Mumbai for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season, which begins on October 15. The middle-order batsman is expected to be fully fit for the initial match of Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir.

Sarfaraz has been a prominent player for the Mumbai team in the upcoming house session, recovering from his earlier shock during the Buchi Babu Trophy in Tamil Nadu.

Shardul Thakur will lead the team as captains, while players like Ayush Matre, Mushir Khan, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Siddhesh Lad, Suryash Shej, Tushar Deshpande, Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotion are also included in the squad.

Sarfaraz last seen in action in the Buchi Babu Trophy

Sarfaraz Khan was last seen in action in the 2025 Buchi Babu Trophy, where he scored 305 runs in four innings including two centuries. Earlier this year, he also impressed for India against Lions of England, scoring 92 off 119 balls in the first informal test in Cantorbury.

The right -handed batsman has played six Tests for India, scoring 371 runs in 11 innings, which includes an average of 37.10 and three fifty. He made his Test debut against England under Rohit Sharma in February 2024, scored 62 runs off 66 balls before going out.

The middle-order batsman was released from India’s recent five-match Test series against England, which ended 2–2 into a draw. He was also not selected for the upcoming two-match test series against the West Indies at home.

The 27-year-old has scored 4,685 runs in 55 first-class matches at an average of 65.98, including 16 centuries and 15 half-centuries, with a career-first 301 unbeaten.
