Ravichandran Ashwin drops truth bomb on Usman Tariq’s action: Pakistan cricketer Usman Tariq has been in the headlines for some time. He is gaining interest in his unique work. The Pakistani spinner came into limelight during the second T20 match against Australia when Cameron Green made a ‘chucking gesture’ while returning to the dressing room after being dismissed by his ball. His action has been under question for some time now.
Usman Tariq also responded to Green’s trolling by sharing an Instagram story, captioned: “After getting out”, along with a video of a child making fun of the Australian all-rounder. He took 2 for 16 in that game and helped Pakistan win the game and clinch the series.
Usman Tariq acquitted by former ICC umpire
Earlier, former ICC umpire Anil Chaudhary had given his decision by uploading a video on Instagram and explaining everything about his action, confirming it to be legal and former Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja had also come out in support of Tariq.
Recently, in the video ‘Aish Ki Baat’, Ravichandran Ashwin also gave clarification on his bowling action. He also highlighted the fact that many cricketers have played with questionable actions over the years.
Ravichandran Ashwin leaves truth on Usman Tariq’s action
Ravichandran Ashwin, speaking on the ‘Aish Ki Baat’ YouTube channel, said, “There is a break in Usman Tariq’s bowling action, but it is a legally sanctioned break. The action looks unusual and there is some novelty in it. He also has two or three variations. However, the final decision lies only with the ICC – it has to be taken by the umpires and the match referee.
Ravichandran Ashwin also took a dig at Sunil Narine, whose action has also been questioned and he has been banned twice for his action. However, he has passed all the tests and is back to playing cricket. He believes that the decision to deal with this matter should be left to the umpires.
Ravichandran Ashwin also said, “I would also say that there have been players with questionable activities in the past who have played the World Cup, and I don’t want to name them. They continued to play the game. So we don’t need to focus too much on them right now.”
Ravichandran Ashwin concluded, “But I think strict action needs to be taken on players with questionable activities. If you set such a precedent, many players will continue to play. As I said, when it comes to players with questionable activities, there needs to be transparency. That responsibility is on the ICC – to clearly define the boundaries: what is acceptable to this degree, action should be taken beyond that. On-field calls should also reflect this. Anyway, that’s for a separate discussion. Have taken.”
Usman Tariq was given permission to bowl
Umpires have raised questions on Usman Tariq’s action during Pakistan Super League (PSL). He has also undergone two biomechanical tests at the National Cricket Academy, Lahore.
Interestingly, the officials approved Tariq’s action and allowed him to continue bowling in the T20 tournament. He also said that his arm has two elbows and they bend naturally.
