Former India former-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has made a bold prediction about the future of wicketkeeper-son Sanju Samson with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL. Ashwin said that the Kerala batsman is likely to live with the Royals despite the ongoing speculation about another franchise.
There has been speculation about the future of Sanju Samson with Royals before the 2026 IPL season. Prior to the 2025 season, wicketkeeper-better was retained for of 18 crores by a Jaipur-based franchise. However, an injury prevented him from the specialty in any match during that campaign.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ash Ki Baat, Ravichandran Ashwin said that Sanju Samson is likely to continue with Rajasthan Royals. Ashwin said that he did not fully know about Samson’s plans, but the wicketkeeper-bitter is expected to live with RR.

“I don’t know anything yet. I will ask him. He will tell me. How will we know what will happen if he goes to the auction? I think after everything happens, he will only stay in RR,” Ashwin said.
It is worth noting that Ashwin and Samson played together for Rajasthan Royals from IPL 2022 to IPL 2024. Ashwin took 35 wickets in 45 matches at an average of 38.23 and 35 wickets at the rate of 7.82. With the bat, he scored 344 runs at an average of 18.11 and a strike rate of 132.31, scored with the best score of 50.
Rajasthan Royals means the world for me – Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson has been a prominent player for Rajasthan Royals over the years. In the recent podcast with Ravichandran Ashwin, Samson said that franchise means the world for his career. He said that with RR, Rahul Dravid and Manoj Badle, gives them a platform to show their talent.
“Rajasthan Royals mean the world for me. A small child coming from a village in Kerala wanted to show his talent. And then Rahul (Dravid) Sir and Manoj Badle Sir gave me a platform to get up and show the world that I am making,” he said. (Through Rajasthan Royals).
Samson’s future with Royals remains uncertain. While the Super Kings of Chennai showed interest in attaining star wicketkeeper-better, they allegedly rejected business proposals involved in other prominent players instead of Samson.
Sanju Samson’s record with Rajasthan Royals in IPL
Sanju started his IPL career with Rajasthan Royals in 2013. He played three seasons for RR before joining Delhi’s capitals in 2016. In 2018, the wicketkeeper-betters returned to RR and have been with the franchise since then completing a total of 11 sessions with Royals.
Samson has scored 4,027 runs in 149 matches for Rajasthan at an average of 31.71 and a strike rate of 141.25, including two centuries and 23 half -centuries. He was appointed as captain before the 2021 season and directed the team in the IPL 2022 final, where he lost to the Gujarat Titans (GT).
Overall, Samson has scored 4,704 runs in 177 matches at an average of 30.94 and 139.04, including three hundreds and 26 fifty.
