Team India’s wicketkeeper-son Sanju Samson is unlikely to allegedly join five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The Chennai franchise has shown cold interest, while Rajasthan Royals (RR) are fully surprised by trade discussions, which is unlikely to switch off-season at this level.
Sanju Samson requested the Royals to release it after IPL 2025. He was retained before last year’s mega auction before Rs 18 crore. Samson played only nine out of 14 matches due to a side strain, in which Ryan Parag stepped into a stand-in captain. Royals can release him or trade him in another team.
Sanju Samson’s IPL 2025 season and Rajasthan Royals Yatra
Sanju Samson started his IPL journey with Rajasthan Royals in 2013 and played three sessions before going to Delhi franchise during RR’s two -year suspension. He returned to Royals in 2018 and was retained before 2022 and 2024 mega auction.

Prior to the 2021 season, RR appointed Samson as captain. Under his leadership, the team ended as runners up in 2022. However, Royals struggled in recent seasons, recalling the playoffs in two of the last three IPL versions.
Samson’s IPL 2025 campaign was interrupted by injuries. He scored 285 runs at a strike rate of 140.39. The batsman started the season as an influence player, and a stomach injury against Delhi’s capitals forced him to remember five games. In particular, the team finished ninth in the points table.
CSK’s interest in Sanju Samson has cooled down before IPL 2026
Chennai Super Kings allegedly considered signing Samson, especially uncertainty around MS Dhoni’s future. However, the franchise has cooled its interest in the idea.
A CSK official told Revsports that there is no discussion about Samson with Rajasthan Royals, calling the trade talk “all rumors”. The official said that there is no plan at present.
“No, no, we are not discussing them with Rajasthan Royals at this time,” CSK officials Told Revsportz“These are all rumors. We can’t tell about the future, but so far, nothing.”
Sanju Samson is included in India’s squad for Asia Cup 2025
Sanju Samson has been included as India’s primary wicketkeeper-better for the 2025 Asia Cup, but his position in the initial XI is uncertain. Shubman Gill, who returned to the T20 e-setup as a vice-captain, is likely to open with Abhishek Sharma, who may force Samson to remember the XI of playing.
Tilak Verma of the team is expected to be at number three and Captain Suryakumar Yadav is in four. Samson has batted at number four or less in the T20I, which has increased the possibility of taking the keeper-botter role in the order.
Men in Blue will launch their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Dubai on 10 September. They will face Pakistan and Oman in their remaining group-phase matches.
