Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin ended Sanju Samson’s international career after Shubman Gill’s return to the Indian T20I side for the Asia Cup 2025.
The Indian side has been selected for the Asia Cup 2025, and it marks the return of Indian Test Captain Shubman Gill. Shubman has been a property for the Indian team; However, he was not part of the Indian squad for the last three T20I series against Bangladesh, South Africa and England.

Ravichandran Ashwin ends Sanju Samson’s career of India
Ashwin, through his YouTube channel, analyzed India’s T20I squad for the ACC event, and he thinks Shubman Gill, a potential candidate who made a qualified return, will mark the end of Sanju Samson’s international career.
He said, “In fact, I understand the selection of Shubman Gill. He is also the vice-captain. He has scored a lot of runs for the Titans of Gujarat in the IPL. He has credentials to take in T20I setup.”
“Is it sad that you have declared Gill as the vice-captain, so Sanju Samson is also in danger. Sanju Samson is not going to play. Shubman Gill will play, and he will open batting,” he said.
Ashwin is sympathetic with Shreyas Iyer and Yashsvi Jaiswal on the Asia Cup Snow
In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin showed sympathy with Indian players Shreyas Iyer and Yashsvi Jaiswal, despite the commendable performance, failed to impress adequate selectors for the Asia Cup selection.
“Look, I think the selection is a non -thanksless task. Leaving someone out, telling someone that they have been dropped, this is not an easy thing. You have to talk to the players, you have to go through sadness.”
Ashwin said on his Youtube channel ‘Ash Ki Butt’, “I hope a call was given to Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal, and they were given the reasons behind being chosen.”

Chief selector Ajit Agkar has pointed to the appointment of Shubman Gill as he has said that he will be elevated for roles and hence he has been appointed as T20I vice-containers.
Ashwin said, “Jaiswal has also been in some great form. Perhaps he is thinking about Shubman Gill as a leader for the future. Perhaps he can be an all-format captain. But it is not necessary to have the same captain in all the formats,” said Ashwin.
