Ahead of India’s first game in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, Sanju Samson’s place in the eleven playing is a major talk. In The Squad too, there is speculation with the selectors who choose Jitesh Sharma, that this year’s IPL may overtake the wicketkeeper-batsman from Sanju Samson after his heroes.
Another reason may be the selection of Shubman Gill. The right-handed batsman has not only been called back to the T20I setup, but has also been named as the vice-captain. Gill has not played T20I since July last year, but is likely to be a part of eleven plays for the upcoming game.
When Gill struggled to enter the Indian team, Sanju opened the innings with Jitesh Sharma. Kerala Star also performed well, although continuity remains a major issue for him.

Ravichandran Ashwin Snobs Sanju Samson:
While only time will tell whether Sanju Samson plays the first game against UAE or not, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes that the wicketkeeper-batsman bench is likely to be heated.
Ashwin has asked Gill to open the innings with Sharma that there is no possibility of simultaneous convenience in the eleven of playing vice-captains and Samson.
Bhartiya Mahan further stated that since Samson has not played in the Indian team as wicketkeeper-finisher, he is unlikely to get a place in the middle order.
Jitesh Sharma gave preference
Ashwin said that the team management should take Jitesh ahead of Samson and slot Abhishek Sharma, Gill, Captain Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma at number 5 behind the quarter.
“The remaining 10 are one lock; this is the only debate. Will Sanju Samson have a place in the middle order? There is no chance in my opinion. You can find out how to see a house can help to locate a country by looking at the nets.
Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, “Shubman Gill will definitely play, while Sanju Samson would only be knocking (practice). Because he did not bat in the net as well. It is sad that he will not start in the Asia Cup.”
