A big twist is about to come as Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson is reportedly considering leaving the franchise to end his long-standing association with the IPL team. The news of Sanju Samson’s possible exit has been the biggest talking point for the last few months.
After a mixed IPL 2025 campaign with Rajasthan Royals, reports suggest that Samson has informed the team management about his decision to move on. One of the main reasons behind the Indian wicketkeeper’s request is the growing differences with the team management.
Sanju Samson wants a fresh start in IPL
Media reports have revealed that Samson was unhappy with the Royals’ decision to release star opener Jos Buttler last year, as the English batsman has been one of their biggest match-winners over the years.
Another reason behind Samson’s decision is said to be his desire to join a bigger, more high-profile franchise that can help him expand his personal brand.

This could end his long journey with the Jaipur-based franchise, where he started off as a young talent and became their captain.
He has been one of the most consistent performers for Rajasthan over the last few years. His calm leadership, smart decisions and powerful batting have made him a fan favourite.
However, with the team struggling to find stability in recent seasons, it seems Samson is ready for a new challenge and a fresh start elsewhere. Recently there were reports that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are very interested in signing the Kerala star.
The race between CSK and KKR intensifies with Sanju Samson’s possible exit from Rajasthan Royals
Both Chennai Super Kings and KKR teams are keeping a close eye on the situation and trade talks may intensify in the coming days. If Samson moves to CSK, he could become a key part of their rebuilding plans after the end of the Dhoni era.
On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders really need a strong leader after Shreyas Iyer joined Punjab Kings (PBKS), and are unlikely to retain Ajinkya Rahane as captain for the next season; Thus, Samson seems like a perfect fit for the three-time IPL champions.
As of now, neither Samson nor Rajasthan Royals have made any official statement, but sources close to the situation have confirmed that discussions are ongoing. The matter has now taken a new turn, as a new franchise has joined the race to sign Samson after he parted ways with the Royals.

Delhi Capitals in talks with Sanju Samson for captaincy role ahead of IPL 2026
According to a report by RevSportz journalist, Delhi Capitals are also interested in making Sanju Samson their captain after failing to bring back Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer in the mega auction last year. Delhi Capitals had a mixed season under the captaincy of Akshar Patel in IPL 2025.
Now, the Delhi-based franchise is looking for a long-term option for leadership, and the team management feels that Samson can be the man to lead the team. However, nothing has been decided yet, but serious discussions are going on between the two parties.
