Kerala wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson is fully prepared to make his comeback in the India National Cricket Team ODI squad for the upcoming Australia Tour.
In-form opener Abhishek Sharma is also in controversy for a place in the ODI squad, and he is involved in a direct clash with Yashasvi Jaiswal for the role of opener in the Indian team.

On Saturday, October 4, the Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) is ready to select the squad for Australia’s upcoming White-Ball tour, but there is no clarity yet on the announcement. India Tour of Australia includes an ODI series of three matches and five matches T20I series, and the matches will be played in October-November 2025.
According to a PTI report, star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been dropped from the tour as he is currently recovering from his foot fracture.
In his absence, Sanju Samson is likely to be nominated as the second wicketkeeper-batsman in the ODI team, KL Rahul with the first choice. Sanju Samson, who is India’s first choice T20i wicketkeeper-batsman, is ready to pipe Dhruv Jurlel for the occasion despite slamming in a sensational century in the first Test against the West Indies.
Shubman Gill is likely to rest
Punjab cricketer Shubman Gill has become an all format player for the India National Cricket Team. He is currently a Test captain and vice-captains of T20I and ODI teams.
He is being supported as the next poster boy of Indian cricket, and because of this the selection committee inspired him to play continuously in all three formats. After IPL 2025, he participated in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England, Asia Cup 2025, and is now in a two-match Test series against the West Indies.
With Shubman Gill working with a heavy charge, he needs to rest from Odis or T20I or against the Australia National Cricket Team. Allegedly, the selection committee is likely to provide them with adequate comfort on the Australia Tour, where teams have to play the match with little changes.
If he is rested, Yashsvi Jaiswal or Abhishek Sharma may partner with Rohit Sharma in ODI matches. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been around the ODI setup for a while, but Abhishek Sharma’s recent emergence, as well as his ability to chip with the ball, keeps him at the same level as Rajasthan Royals (RR) star.

Apart from Rishabh Pant, India will also remember the services of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya on a tour as it is currently down with a quadriseps injury.
To deal with the absence of Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy is likely to be nominated in the ODI squad, until he gets re -injured in the ongoing series against the West Indies. Shivam Dubey is seen as another contender.
Meanwhile, Paes Spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, which provides himself for both test matches against the West Indies, can be rested for a tour of Australia.
In addition, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to make a grand comeback in international cricket on the Australia tour after the last viewing for India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
