Legendary India National Cricket Team Off-Spinner Harbhajan Singh has chosen its India squad for the Asia Cup 2025, which will be played from 9 to 28 September.
Surprisingly, Harbhajan Singh has not chosen Sanju Samson in his India squad for the Asia Cup 2025, but gave Shreyas Iyer a place.

In a conversation with the Times of India, Harbhajan Singh said that Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill should be included in the team for top-order locations.

He said that Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, and Ryan Parag could handle the duties of mid-sequence, with Washington Sundar, Exer Patel and Kuldeep Yadav spin-bouncing options.
Harbhajan Singh further said that India’s first choice in KL Rahul Asia Cup could be wicketkeeper-batsman, and he will compete with Rishabh Pant for the occasion. He said:

The name of India Test Captain Shubman Gill is currently the biggest talking point in Indian cricket, with conflicting reports about his selection for the Asia Cup 2025.
Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh has supported Shubman Gill to create India’s Asia Cup squad as he feels that the batsman can switch a gear and play ultra-invasive cricket if needed.
“You need to understand that the T20 format is not only about killing the ball, and if Shubman Gill decides to hit, he is no less than anyone else. The type of batsman he has, he has a solid game. He has strong basics and he can score around the field, whatever is the format.
“If you look at the IPL, they have scored every season. He wears an orange cap on his head, and it does not come for you, as it is not a bats at 120 strike rates; he is a bats at a strike rate of 160, 150 strike rates,” said Harabhajan.

Harbhajan also said that Gill has the ability to show sheer dominance by playing big knock in T20I cricket.
“I think he can play the format well as well as dominating. We used to see four more sixes, but it is not necessary that in 20 overs, someone needs to hit only fours and sixes. We also need someone who can play a big innings,” he said.
In particular, some reports claimed that Shubman Gill would be added to India’s Asia Cup 2025 Squad, replacing Axar Patel in the role.
But the latest reports suggest that things are not easy, and may not find it easy to get a place seen as “set team”, likely to continue as an opener with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma.
Overall, Shubaman Gill has scored 578 runs in 21 T20I matches for India at a strike rate of 30.42 and 139.27.
