Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pulled off a thrilling last-ball win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the first double header of IPL 2026. Rishabh Pant took LSG over the line on the second last ball after needing 1 run from two balls and the southpaw hit a four.
This was LSG’s first win in IPL 2026 as they chased down the total target of 157 runs with five wickets to spare. After the win, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka, who is known to be extremely emotional towards his team, placed his palm on his chest and tears started flowing from his eyes. After the game, Sanjiv Goenka was seen hugging Pant on the field and talking to him for a while.

After LSG’s defeat against Delhi Capitals earlier this week, Sanjiv Goenka was seen having an intense conversation with Pant and head coach Justin Langer. This conversation once again raised many eyebrows, with the LSG owner facing criticism. As Sanjiv Goenka was earlier criticized for criticizing KL Rahul on camera.
However, a day later, LSG’s social media staff shared a video of the same incident, saying not everyone had the full picture. The brief video clip shows Pant, Sanjiv Goenka and Langer laughing and chatting about the LSG vs DC game.
Mohammed Shami hero for LSG
Talking about the match, LSG won the toss and decided to bowl first and were in complete control from the first over. Mohammed Shami displayed his experience and took the wicket of Abhishek Sharma in his very first over. In the second over, he dismissed the dangerous Travis Head. SRH were at 26/4 at one point.
After this, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen made a partnership of 100 runs in 57 balls. Both the batsmen scored half centuries respectively, with the former scoring 56 and the latter scoring 62 to help the Orange Army score 156/9.
Rishabh Pant praised Mohammed Shami
Chasing the target, LSG opener Mitchell Marsh returned early and Aiden Markram took the responsibility and scored 45 runs in 27 balls against his former franchise. However, the star of the run-chase was Rishabh Pant as wickets kept falling from the other end, but he was there till the end and led his team to victory.
Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten on 68 runs in 50 balls; However, Mohammed Shami was named player of the match for his exceptional bowling figures of 9/2 in four overs. He also bowled the maximum number of dot balls in the match. Shami’s return to form will be an important factor for the team.
After the match, Rishabh Pant said that the bowlers deserve praise as they set the tone for the game, especially while bowling first.
He said that players like Shami, Avesh Khan and Rathi contributed well, and also highlighted Siddharth’s performance, mentioning that the team had decided that he would step up on that field, and he performed effectively. LSG will next face Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday.
